Taz Carter
I’d come home on Wednesday & could tell he wasn’t feeling well, I slept on the floor with him that night Thursday mornings trip to the vet showed his red cell count to be 20 & a normal low is 37, an x-ray showed an enlarged spleen & I had to take my sweet boy for an ultrasound, when we arrived at that office he took 5 steps out of the car & collapsed, they had to get a gurney to take him in & the ultrasound revealed his spleen full of tumors & bleeding internally. He was 12 so I wasn’t going to put him through a surgery that wasn’t guaranteed. I slept on the floor with him again on Thursday & I had a lot to get accomplished/lined up in an extremely small window of time as I didn’t want him to go through the weekend in his condition. I was able to find a vet to come to the house on Friday so Friday morning he got chicken breast for breakfast, a car ride to work with his Mommy where he got a quarter pounder & talked a coworker out of part of her lunch as he always did, he had a massage scheduled for 12:30 (for his hips he’d been getting massages & adjustments for the past 5 years & LOVED his Mary Ann & her magic fingers) Mary Ann brought him a pork chop & his Dad brought him home another quarter pounder when he came home. The vet arrived at 1:30 & we were fortunate to have been able to say goodbye to him in the comfort of his own back yard.
I’m very grateful that Homeward Bound worked with us & my scheduling of the vet & his massage since I was insistent that his last moments be of love & compassion. Tazzy was taken away with one of his gorillas. He LOVED his babies & gorilla was his favorite, he would just carry them around & love on them. Eventually his first one, I could no longer sew & he became flat gorilla that was still carried around. The place I got them had quit carrying them for a while & when they came back in the line I got him 2 of them with the intention of putting one back so I didn’t run the chance they’d quit carrying them again. The box came & I gave him one gorilla & he took it to his bed, then he got up & got the second gorilla out of the box & took that over to his bed as well. From then on he often carried them both around, he’d come outside with us & have one then want back in the house to get the other one J I kept one & sent him with the other one.
I miss my sweet boy dearly but I truly thank everyone at Homeward Bound for such incredible service & such kindness. It did make the loss of our baby a little easier to bear.
