Tanner:
My tears have not yet stopped since you took your final breath, sighed, and I heard the words, “she’s passed” this morning. My heart broke right in two and I will grieve you forever, but I also intend to celebrate every day of our 14 years together! I didn’t get to enjoy your first 2 years, but you made up for that quickly! You rescued me in a time that I needed a new fur baby to love and you wasted no time settling right into your own little corner of my heart. Oh how you used to make me laugh, with your tail curled over your back, strutting around with an occasional skip in your step and that look on your face, looking for something to do just to get my attention, even though you knew you always had it. And, how you would sit up on your back legs for as long as it took, with those big, sad eyes begging for treats, a head rub, to show off to anyone who would look at you, or just to say hi when I got home. Oh my dear, sweet, Tanner, you will be so missed. We used to love going to the park and you would just barely get your feet wet going across the causeway until the one day that you got in all the way to your chest then looked up to make sure I saw you. I laughed with you every day. You would have been very happy to have been an ‘only child’, but changed your mind and fell in love when I let you pick out a new friend and then loved playing with your Bailey, teasing her, playing tug of war, seeing who could bark louder and longer, sharing a bed while you chewed your bones, all the way down to sharing a water bowl, at the same time, when you were thirsty on a walk. You were so happy to have a little sister to teach, hang out with, occasionally boss around but mostly to be best friends in all we did. Now that your days are gone and all our tomorrows will start without you, it is those memories that will keep you alive in my heart and the hearts of those who knew and loved you. So, cross that rainbow bridge sweet girl, where you can walk and run again, bark again, eat and drink again, your lameness gone, the pain gone and you wait for me to join you when my time on this earth is done. And, we will again some day walk through the park, lay on the grass in the shade, ride on a golf cart while everyone else runs, I’ll roll you through the neighborhood in your stroller, we can play chase, I’ll rub those big ears and your belly and we will be together again forever. Be free and watch over me and your fur sisters that you left behind. You can be quite sure that you will never, ever be forgotten my dear, sweet best friend.
