Penelope Knight
Penelope was the most gorgeous dog both inside and out. When we went to go look at German Shepherds puppies we found a breeder in Bloomington that had two litters of 6-week old puppies. When we arrived we were greeted by fourteen of the cutest dogs. One puppy ignored the rest of her brothers and sisters and kept her attention solely on ours the entire time. Either by sitting quietly waiting for us to pick her up or pawing up to the top of the large bin all the puppies were sharing. It was as if she was waiting for us to arrive and already knew who we were. While we were there this puppy was Rachel’s first to hold, and she was the only dog that Chris held. We knew immediately that she was our dog. She instantly created a strong bond with us and made us her pack. As a puppy she learned to love the snow and had a remarkable distain for birds. She never chewed on anything, except a few coat zippers. When we found them she had remorse and never did it again. She was a perfect puppy. In 2014 we bought our first home with a large backyard, just the right size for her to call her own. In 2015 we welcomed our first baby into our family, and they immediately became partners in crime. Shortly after Calvin was born our family saw many hardships. Penelope forfeited everything it meant to be a dog to help comfort our family as we dealt with the unpredictable struggles of post-partum physical and mental health. She was understanding of injuries suffered from an automobile accident that limited our ability to play with her. She helped us babysit and keep an eye on the baby as we had to rebuild our freshly finished basement. She was sensitive to our needs as we grieved the loss during a miscarriage. She mourned with us as we had to bury a parent and three grandparents. In 2018, we welcomed another new member into the family, and Penelope didn’t skip a beat welcoming her into the pack. We thought 2018 was going to be our year until in august we found a mass on Penelope’s back- inoperable cancer. Penelope was here for us literally through hell and high water. She was our rock, our constant, and our best friend. Penelope always knew exactly what we needed, and never asked for anything in return. Penelope was assigned to our family from our father in heaven to guide us though our darkest days. Her love was unconditional and everlasting. We could not have survived without her. There was truly no dog more perfect for our family. Good girl puppy. We will meet again. Penelope is survived by Chris-30, Rachel-30, Achilles (feline)-8, Athena (feline)-6, Calvin-3, Evelyn-0.
