“What will survive of us is love.”
—Philip Larkin
My Mercy crossed the Rainbow Bridge on a beautiful and sunny Thursday afternoon.
Mercy spent her early years as a show dog. She enjoyed the stage and the companionship of Edy, Roy and the Ironwood Beagles! During this time she became an AKC Champion and the mom to Dino and Visa. Her loving temperament and ability was passed on to her children and many subsequent generations of which many would become AKC Champions themselves. But the limelight lost its luster and Mercy felt that she’d accomplished what she set out to do. Soon she began looking towards retirement.
In 2011, Mercy would officially retire. Although she would leave Ironwood and move in with her new family (Dave and Kara), she would fondly remember Edy, Roy and the beagles- as well as enjoying pets and hugs sent from them through Dave.
A time of cookies and cuddles, Mercy quickly grew to enjoy retirement with Dave and Kara. Whether snuggling on the couch with Dave to watch the Pacers game (of course, while wearing her official Pacers collar) or running with Kara in the backyard to repel all the evil rabbit invaders, Mercy was a happy, fun loving, wonderful companion.
Mercy was very food motivated and stayed in shape wanting to make sure that she had every opportunity for any morsel that might come close to the floor- embracing the philosophy that “You can’t have a 5 second rule when you have a 2 second dog.” Though the truth was she used her charm just as effectively as her speed. In either case, she would often hear her Dave call out in a loving rock-a-billy tone “Oh, my Mercy!”
Constantly wagging her tail, she was joyful in every moment. Mercy loved to snuggle up on the couch with Dave or the big doggie pillow with Kara. Wanting to constantly remind all those around her that they mattered to her just as much as she did to us. Full of affection and love, Mercy earned the title of “Captain of Cuddles” from the head of the household.
There are far too many great memories of Mercy to recount individually here. They will live on in the hearts and minds of Dave and Kara. Mercy will always be remembered in total love and happiness.
Rest in peace now my precious pup.
