“If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together,
keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever .”
—Winnie the Pooh
My Kara crossed the Rainbow Bridge this past Tuesday morning.
Kara was rescued by Taly, Marcus and their family in June, 2007 where she was given a strong foundation of love and family. Kara would join Dave in early 2010 but would always be remembered affectionately by her rescuers as they exchanged messages and pictures of Kara over the years.
Kara was curious and adventurous. She was happiest when exploring the world, pulling Dave along on walks as she caught the scent of something that needed to be found. On car rides Kara would rest her nose on the door just inside the open window, enjoying the wind and all the random smells that it brought with it. Even being in the yard could be an adventure, walking the fence and guarding against rabbits before taking up her post-master of all she surveyed.
And all it took for her to demonstrate her speed and agility was to make eye contact with her and say: “Kara… who’s a fast girl?” Her ears would perk before jumping to the left and then the right then with an incredible burst of speed she would run from fence line to fence line before settling in beside Dave, her tongue hanging out the side of her mouth as she beamed with pride. Then taking the opportunity to just rest and recline. And it goes without saying that the outdoor dish always had the best water.
She knew how to make Dave smile and laugh with her antics, often prompting belly rubs and ear scratches.
When Mercy joined the family, Kara welcomed her as if a long lost sister had returned home. They would share food, treats, pillows and toys. Many an evening they would cuddle together on one of the big pillows or with Dave on the couch. In the yard, Kara would lead the charge as they would coordinate their defense against the evil rabbit invaders.
After Mercy passed in August, Kara would sniff the big mattress pillow where Mercy spent much of her last day then Kara would lay down in front of it. Never getting on it – wanting to remember her sister. Kara’s with Mercy now. Cuddling together.
So many wonderful memories of Kara, her adventures, her spirit and her love will live on in Dave’s heart.
Rest in Peace my precious pup.
