Hamlet was born on September 11, 2001, rescued in an alley by a fireman. I was looking for a laid back kitten and found him at the bottom of a pile of sleeping kittens in a hammock. I knew that a cat who would let all the other cats lie on top of him was for me. His name originally was going to be named Alabaster but his first day with me, while watching Hamlet on TV, he ran around, batted at the television and did summersaults. I asked him if he wanted to be named Hamlet and he ran to me, jumped up and licked my chin.
“Grandma Kitty” teased him about the squinty eye he had as a kitten. It never seemed to go away but made him adorably flirty. When he was eight months old I adopted his sister, Ophelia. They were the best of friends and napped together, played constantly and ran around the house at night when everyone was asleep. Mealtime was Hamlet’s absolute favorite event. He could hear food hit the bowl in the deepest sleep from anywhere in the house. He was skilled in the art of waking a sleeping human, which he practiced often to get a midnight snack.
Over the years, Hamlet gained a daddy and 4 two-legged brothers and sisters. In 2013 Ophelia ran away and he went into a depression. Though she came back in 2015, he was never the same. He was a sweet, gentle and affectionate soul who loved spending time with his family and anyone who gave good neck scratches. He loved giving kisses, nibbling on earlobes and snuggling up for a good nap.
We love you so much sweet Hammie boy. We will miss you always.
