Bagheera

In loving memory of Bagheera. He was adopted along with his brother Khufu in New Orleans in 2005, both rescued as kittens from hurricane flooding. They were both lively, silly, talkative, and aggressively affectionate. Bagheera outlived his brother another 5 years, claiming all the laps for himself.

He was 16 years old. He and his litter mate Khufu came up here with me from New Orleans. They were my kids before I had kids. He’s been our snuggle buddy, the hold-me-like-a-baby-and-carry-me-around cat, who would yell at us demanding attention or a warm lap, crawl under the covers in winter, immediately in me or Nich’s lap the minute the kids had gone to bed and it was “safe”. When he was young he used to skid across the floor so fast he’d run into door frames and table legs. He used to like to play fetch with a Pom Pom in the mornings when I was still in bed. When his brother was alive, they were inseparable. I used to call them my little velociraptors because they would hunt and stir up trouble as a coordinated pair.

I’m gonna miss my sleek little kitten faced void baby. I’m so glad we got to be his for as long as we did.

I like imagining that he’s back with his brother now. RIP buddy.
